The most recent figures show that Internet Explorer continues its long, steady decline in market share, with no end in sight. But it need not be that way. Here are five ways Microsoft can save Internet Explorer and gain back market share.
Computerworld reports that NetApplications' most recent data shows that Internet Explorer ended January with a 62.2% market share. Chrome jumped into third place, with a 5.2% market share. Gregg Keizer notes:

We still need IE around long-term. It's good for security.
No, I don't mean for the security of the people who use it. But when there's an easy target around and a good number of people are still using it, hackers will remain focused on that target. Cracking Firefox, Chrome, and Opera is just more work.
Even if IE maintained 10% market share, that would be enough. It's so easy to break, the 10% would be enough to keep most hackers from wanting to bother with the other 90%.
Firefox users don't need to outrun the bear, they just need to outrun IE users.
