Sen. Franken to Comcast, NBC execs: merger no laughing matter

Comcast and NBC Universal didn't get a whole lot of love at Thursday's emotional Senate and House hearings on their proposed merger. But company representatives did get plenty of questions. At the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Wisconsin Democrat Herb Kohl cracked no smiles as he ran through four "principal areas of concern" about the deal: potential programming price hikes, loss of free over-the-air TV content, hobbling independent programmers, and weakening Internet TV.

You need to work on your self-discipline <grin>
Seriously, though. It's good to hear that a Senator is poking back at the Hollywood machine. Him, of all people, I would have suspected of being fully bought and paid for by that crowd.

Give him a chance. He's only been in office a couple of months and hasn't finished his "on the Hill" education. Remember "Contract with America" and the 100 eager, new faces? They did not stay eager for very long.

Being a resident of Minnesota, I have been quite pleasantly surprised by Senator Franken's behavior in Congress. Considering his previous writings and his stint on Air America radio, I'd have thought that he'd be quite the antagonistic firebrand. Instead he's put his head down and really worked to read up on the issues at hand before forming his opinions. If you listen to his speeches, he displays a grasp of legislation that is totally unexpected for a first-term former celebrity politician.
I didn't vote for him in the last election (I voted independent), but, if he carries on the way he's going right now, he'll have earned my vote in 2014.

Well, oddly enough, I'm not a customer. I didn't vote for him, remember? All the same, I'm happy, though, which is saying something about his governing style. :O

You're a customer, just not by choice. Your taxes are paying his salary. Just like I've been an unwilling Microsoft customer in the past. For instance, I got Windows on my netbook when I bought it. I didn't have a choice.
